From the manufacturer

Traveler G-Lock Technology

Traveler G-lock is a new compact leg lock system dedicated to Traveler Tripods. Its space efficiency makes it possible to have taller tripods with compact folded lengths. The new, curved external form gives good grip, while the internal O-ring achieves softer operation and reduces dust and grit entering the locks.

Traveler Ball Head

The head is smooth, precise, and perfectly fits between the folded legs. All tripods models are available as Kits and with head, or without the head. The head in Kits can be easily removed and replaced with other heads.

Carbon Fiber Tubes

Gitzo recently raised the bar with the introduction of its Carbon eXact tubes. Significantly stiffer than the previous Carbon 6X, Gitzo’s New Carbon eXact tubes are manufactured using High Modulus (HM) carbon fiber and also feature larger tube diameters, improving performance without sacrificing weight.

A short column is included with the Gitzo Traveler for optimum ground level shooting.

The Gitzo Traveler has New space-saving feet or interchangeable feet.

Compact when closed, the Gitzo Traveler is easy to store. The included shoulder strap makes the Gitzo Traveler easy to carry.

    Product Description

GK1545T-82TQD is a Traveler tripod/head kit comprising the GT1545T Tripod and the GH1382TQD Center Ball Head. Traveler Tripods, with the 180 Degree leg folding system pioneered by Gitzo, makes more efficient use of folded space by accommodating the center column and head in between the folded tripod legs. They are now even stronger with the state of the art “Carbon exact” tubes, more space efficient with the compact ''Traveler G-lock'', more professional with the smooth and precise heads, and easier to carry with the supplied shoulder strap. The tripod GT1545T has the perfect balance between lightweight when carrying, and height and rigidity when shooting. It is much taller than its predecessor, thanks to the space efficient Traveler G-lock. Recommended for use with 135mm lenses (200mm maximum). The head GH1382TQD is engineered and designed focusing on ultimate smoothness and precision of the movement and locking, while slim enough to fit between the folded legs. It does not feature the friction control knob, but features independent pan lock. It has no compromises in the ball smoothness (WS2 coating) and hardness of the external and internal components. The head can be removed easily to attach other heads on the tripod's upper disc, but it is recommended to use the GH1382TQD head to ensure perfect fitting of the head between the folded legs. I like it a lot - very refined, high quality - but at a high price.
I've been dithering over writing a review on this tripod. I bought it for a trip with my new Sony a7R II. I think it is a good match for that camera and the lenses I'll be bringing - a Canon 24-105L, the Sony 55/1.8 and a Canon 10-22. The tripod is a very refined piece of work, stable and very easy to set up and take down. The ball head is decent, easy to get used to the controls and compact. The tripod fits easily in my carry-on "personal item" backpack (along with the camera, lenses, mic, odds & ends). With the a7R, I feel I'm downsizing but not giving up much, if anything, say compared with the last full frame camera I owned - a Canon 5D and a Series 4 Gitzo tripod many years ago.The thing I can't say is whether it is worth the price compared to the numerous other travel tripods out there. One review I read, where the reviewer owned both a Gitzo and one of the cheaper travel tripods, gave the nod to his Gitzo as a more refined instrument on several points. But to the cheaper tripod for it's value. I was willing to pay for the extra level of refinement. Life is too short. (that's how I'll justify it anyway)
