2016-2019 Comprehensive review, beginning to end
Long term UPDATE 5/3/2019 After 3 years of service using this red dot I have put 2000 rounds through my rifle. The Micro Red Dot has been dumped in a puddle by accident, ran through 10 degree weather without fog, rained and snowed on, kept in my tent overnight through -10 degree weather and for all practical purposes has been used, a lot. I recently did some drills out running through the Sierra Nevada hills running my rifle to empty and transitioning to pistol. In the running of the rifle, I dumped the dead weight (rifle) when empty and at the end of the stage came back for retrieval of the rifle to redo the course all set in the very rocky high desert, the rifle was dumped in the rocks and hard pack not on a fluffy pillow or soft loamy sand. When I say "Dump the dead weight" I mean dump the dead weight, no messing around, undo the buckle on my rifle and drop the rifle. I did this drill 5 times, the rifle held zero consistently and hit every single time, ever time. On the 5th run I was finished and packed up. Upon cleaning and inspection at home I found that I have damaged and cracked the internal red coated front lens. The red dot still illuminates and the sight still functions as intended. Upon cracking the internal lens the sight was no longer zeroed and thats expected when you end up breaking a reticle. I am thoroughly impressed with this sight and I have grown to love it. The only thing I can say is that the 4 MOA dot is too damn big, a 2 MOA dot would be perfect along with a lens that is a little less green. The other thing I have loved on this sight is that when the sight is off it is not sucking much battery (if any) I have stored my rifle at one point for 7 months without a change of battery and the battery still cranks on and still cranks up BRIGHT on 11. This is a very very good reticle for the money, after using this Red Dot I don't ever intend to try another budget $20 red dot sight, this thing is tough and bright and holds zero very very well. My next Red Dot will be something with a smaller dot 2-3 MOA and I will replace this Fieldsport Micro Red Dot (RED DOT ONLY) and have it as a backup. I highly recommend this Red Dot.I just purchased this red dot 11/16/16 after seeing a review on YouTube about it, I will update my review on the product once received. I will be mounting it to my S&W M&P15T 5.56 equipped with MBUS sights and a 1000 Lumen flashlight. I will be doing run and gun drills with targets ranging from 5-100+ yards to get a real idea of how this red dot performs. I'll give an open and honest opinion of this sight after some legitimate testing. From one patriot to the rest, may god bless you all and may god bless the Republic of The United States of America.-An oath keeper I received my red dot 3 days after purchase, November 19, 2016. The packaging was snug, no damage to the optic and it came with an allen wrench and battery as well as the manual, in which is surprisingly detailed. They claim 2000 hours of run time on setting 7, in other words on 7 it should stay on for 83 days. As I said before I have MBUS front and rear, the red dot is too low to use the MBUS whatsoever without first removing the red dot, however I had a buddy 3D print me a picatinny riser at 20mm tall. It works well, however I would recommend an 18mm riser so that the peep alignment is in the direct center of the 20mm reticle. I did a quick adjustment with the optic on my rifle at home, I aligned my front sight in the peep and adjusted the red dot to the top of the front post. When I got out into the desert to test the optic, I first sighted in at 25 yards, it was about 1MOA off high and right, but I was on paper and had it sighted in 5 shots. The only caviot is that the red dot is 4MOA (4" at 100 yds) so if you want accuracy, place your red dot just UNDER your shot placement and you can be more precise with your shots. After doing so I did some run n gun shooting in daylight, low light and night time. During the day settings 9-11 seemed to work well, but in low light (just before dark) 4-8 worked better due to the slight glare around the dot on settings higher than 8 that are not as noticeable during the daytime and at night 3 was about perfect with the dot being nice a crisp and still bright enough to use with the 1000 Lumen flashlight turned on. I put 300 rounds through my 5.56 AR and the sight never once lost it's zero, shut off, flickered, became dim, from my experience there was not a single issue with this red dot. The optic got banged around on the floor behind the seat of my truck for 5 miles on the off road trail before reaching our shooting destination, I ran with it, my brother ran with it, banging against my LBE, through branches and thick brush, slamming onto the ground for prone long shots. I didn't abuse the optic, but I didn't go easy either. My final take on this optic thus far is that for an AR/ 5.56 platform or .22LR or BB/ Pellet guns it's perfect for quick acquisition and fire under 100 yds, past 100 yards is doable, you just have to really take your time because of the red dot being so large (4MOA). I am not sure if it would withstand any more recoil, like 7.62 x 49/51 or a shotgun, but for the lighter recoiling calibers it is well worth the money. I am not sure if I would put my life on the line with this optic just yet, but it seems thus far to be a solid piece of equipment. I will keep updating this thread with new developments. Thanks.-An Oath Keeper
