The Lee Autoprime hand primer works quite well, seems a little fragile but once again read provided instructions and all should be well. For me the hand priming tool is the way to go. A wide range of shellholders is included.
As for the powder scale, I totaly understand why alot of ppl loath it. I found that placing tray hanger hook towards back side of beam seems to aid scale going back to zero more consistantly. I gave up on locking pin, pushing pin in or pulling pin out seems to vibrate beam and possibly moving zeroing screw. Better have a flashlight handy to read the indications for the 10th grn graduations. Scale can be a pain but once I figured it out it works for verifying powder charges. I do believe scale is accurate. I rezero every so often and keep a close eye on the grn-10th grn sliding counterweight. A RCBS 505 beam scale would be wise upgrade later on.
Update 5-20-14
Checked scale with check weights, scale accurate within 1/10th+/- grn. I did upgrade to a RCBS 505 scale. I did not feel a downgrade of review was warranted as the Lee scale functions as advertised. It is just a trade off... ease of use-quality (RCBS) vs finnicky-cheap (Lee)
the perfect powder measure actually works. Once the powder charge is dialed in, I found charges to to be very close when checked on scale. Read the instructions as I was using a new Hodgdon CFE pistol powder, a very fine spherical powder, instructions will state that a finite amount of fine powder may dribble from rotating seem in body. I mounted powder measure to some leftover white melanene material from my new cabnets and what little powder leaks from measure is easy to see and just scoop up. Shouldnt be a issue with flake or cylindrical powders.
Also comes with a primer pocket cleaner, case lube, 1 bushing and a case trimer that mounts where dies go in.
For the price, almost everything is there to get started reloading. Getting extra bushings is highly suggested. I really enjoy my new hobby and with any upgrades later on(turret or progressive press), a single stage press will allways be useful...
Warranty with Lee is fast and easy. I have had a decapper pin fail and the primer unit break, my fault, I took a photo of the damaged items, emailed to Lee tech support, and within a day new items were on their way too me.
Keep in mind that the kit is fairly complete. It does require dies for the round you plan to load, the proper powder, primers, bullets, and the cases. You should also have a good reloading manual or even more than one. I have three! Loading data can be found on the web too.
I have thousands of round reloaded with this kit, and I enjoy using it. Reloading can save you money, however, for me, I don't much more shooting, so I'm spending about the same money, but shooting way more.
1. The Press
The press itself is about as basic as they come, but it's built strong. The U-shape gives the frame strength, and though it's the alloy frame, it's definitely strong enough for the sort of pressure you ought to be applying to it. This is the breech lock press, which is great for swapping dies and calibers quickly - if you don't care for that or just don't want to buy all the extra bushings to do it, the bushing that comes with the press is the standard thread pattern, so you can still screw your dies in and out to your heart's content. It comes with the on-press single priming unit, which I really like, and side-note, must be installed to direct spent primers out the tube where they're supposed to go. The handle gives you a lot of leverage, and is comfortable to use. It's a single stage press, so it won't exactly make you a one-man ammo factory, but it's fast enough for my needs and easy to use.
2. The Powder Measure
The powder measure is one of my favorite things about this set. If (like me) you've never used one before, it's not entirely intuitive to start using, do read the instructions on how to set it up and set/read the micrometer. Once you understand it, you want to be careful using it. Of course you can calculate what volume of powder should equal the weight in grains you're going for, but you may still need to tinker with the adjustment of the micrometer to get exactly the charge weight you want due to variances in the powder weight for different batches - I recommend you determine the density of your powder on your own instead of assuming the accuracy of published figures (if your figures are way off, you probably don't know how to calculate density or made an error, the figures should be close, but not necessarily an exact match). Once you have figured out what volume in CC is needed to throw the proper charge weight in grains, set it and test it at least 10 times to make sure your setup is GTG. Once you have set your charge volume correctly on the powder measure, you should see very little variance in charge weight. Once I set and verify charge weight on the powder measure, I don't do frequent weight checks on individual charges - unless you're doing something wrong, there should be no significant variance from one charge to the next (I did test that, BTW, the first 50 rounds I loaded, I weighed each individual charge to determine accuracy, variance was maybe +/- .05 gr, I can't say any more accurately than that due to the resolution of the scale). This powder measure is definitely accurate enough for my present needs, and frankly, I don't know that that degree of variance would make a noticeable difference at any level of shooting.
3. The Auto Prime
This is my least favorite part of this set, honestly, it's kind of a pain. it has a problem with jamming, a primer will get wedged in such a way that the feed mechanism and primer pop the top cover off. It's not that ergonomic, I find it's a bit slippery to grip right, a redesign with a rubber grip would be great. It also is uncomfortable to use. I used it to prime 100 rounds, some of which had pretty tight primer pockets. Primers that are easy enough to seat on press require what feels like really excessive force on this unit, to the point that I'm concerned about detonation because it's really too much. It does it's job, maybe a little faster than priming on press, but I'm not a big fan of it personally.
4. The Scale
I know, I saw a lot of bad reviews and trash talk about this scale too before I bought this set, to the point that I had considered getting another one along with this set just getting started. It's definitely cheap, the balance bar is made of plastic, and it can be a little difficult to read to the tenth of a grain because of the tiny slit and bar method used, I need good lighting anyway, so it could definitely be improved upon. All that said, it's really not a bad scale. I won't be hammering on it, stepping on it or using it as a see-saw for GI Joes, so the balance bar being made of plastic is inconsequential. It can be a little difficult to read to the 10th of a grain, and for weighing a lot of charges quickly or using with a trickler, you might want something digital. For a beginning reloading setup though, this thing is plenty accurate enough, and easy and intuitive to use.
5. The Cutter and Lock Stud
The set comes with a cutter and lock stud for trimming cases as well, which if you plan to use, you will also need a gauge and holder for the caliber you are reloading. I haven't really used these yet, but my initial impression is that they are not terribly ergonomic, pretty basic, but would do the job.
Overall, I really like the kit, it has all you need at a great price to get you started. If at some point in the future I have more space and want to produce more ammo faster, I will probably buy a progressive press, but I will also probably keep this one as well. If that sounds like you (more space and want to make ammo faster) then maybe you'll want to start off with a progressive press, if you choose to go single stage, give this one your consideration, it's well worth it.

Sonst gerne wieder :-)
