I am also very impressed with the L'NL measure quality. This measure is built like a tank. Very solid construction. When mounted on the optional stand, it feels almost like a vice - solid with smooth, positive operation. I'm very pleased with the purchase - worth every cent.
I found that the small Lee measure would not throw large enough charges for some rifle loads, and even throwing half charge loads it was not accurate. I bought the Hornady, for the value and because they are a quality manufacturer. I was not disappointed.
So far I have loaded ball powder and the measure has operated flawlessly. The mounting system is a little hokey-doke, but it works. I will eventually purchase their mounting stand. A little more elegant solution.
I would recommend this measure, it operates smoothly and is precise.
1/10 to 2/10 of a grain accurate. Very solid construction. Wish it included the baffle (have to buy seperately). Why? Other than that it works well, just not sure why it takes so long to settle. My Dillon is on the very first charge.
Update 12/28/14 - after using the stand mounted powder drop for a month or so I noticed something. When using the same powder, drops are pretty consistent (+- 1-2/10th) but when switching to another powder it takes a while to settle to correct charge weight. I use the stand mount measure for pistol loads, so I think the metering of smaller loads accounts for this. All my powders are ball powders which meter well. My measure on the AP press is on within 1-2 drops with CFE223 and stays accurate.
while the press was great the measure was not ,often it would be off by 7/10 of a grain and it leaked. had to measure every load. with the hornady I might check every 10 or 20 at the most.
I also ordered the stand for it. have not got it or the cylinder yet. All were ordered at the same e time.
I would recommend this highly if your looking for a powder measure.
I load 9mm, 7.63 Mauser, .45 ACP, and .30-30 using the Lee Precision Turret Press and the Hornady Powder Measure w/ Case Activated Powder drop. Using a pistol metering insert (I have several, each for a specific powder load/caliber combination) for my various handguns and a rifle metering insert for the .30-30. Loads are consistently within 1/10th of a grain, with ZERO powder leakage! I use Unique, Accurate #5 and IMR 4895.
When you first start putting powder to brass, measure and dump the first 5 drops to even out the successive loads. I use to double-check every other round, but after several hundred rounds, I now double-check every 50th round...that's how confident I am in Hornady's precision.
Thank you, Hornady!
